RE: 3 way switch in stick house

Every one wires up these switches differently. The bottom line is two wires are travelers. They are paired up. They go on the two brass screws on both switches. What ever colors are paired up on one switch will be the same colors on the other switch. Typically on one side the third wire is the feed and that will go on the black screw. On the other side the third wire is the switch leg, that's the wire that goes to the light and that will get hooked to the black screw on the other switch. Now for the million dollor question...Which one is which? I can't tell you that. Like I said each person does it differently. You'll need to get a meter and figure out which one of the six wires is the feed or hot wire. If you can't figure it out you might have to hire an electrician to do it. I hope this helps a little.

RE: Residential electrical question

Nope, it's in violation of code. 14 gauge wire must be protected by 15A breaker. It's also against code to reduce the wire size out on the circuit, so swapping the breaker with a 15A one won't work either. Just get 12 gauge wire, and wire the circuit with that. Agreed, use a 12 gauge wire and be done with it. Putting 14 ga wire on a 20 amp breaker is a big no no.

RE: Something new I've learned about tires.

but I've never used a closed shoulder that was worth a******off the hardtop. My tires seem to very good off road, in the mud and great in the snow too. Now, In Dave's defense he said that they "tend to be" not "they always are". Every truck, tire, and towing combo are going to be different. I realize that. I have no idea what the 5th wheel's setup was. I just figured I'd throw this story out for discussion. Just one more factor to think about when picking out tires.

RE: Something new I've learned about tires.

Just a thought.... Your tire guy might have been refering to side wall strength and not just tire tred design...Most agressive (not all) tred tires are designed also for off high way use and as such have more flexible side walls. The idea is to give a more flexible and bigger foot print when off roading over uneven ground. A more flexible side wall (on the road) will give the same effect of a low tire (soft and sway) when loaded. I have not heard of tred design alone affecting towing other than in regards to wet, dry or snow conditions.JM2C That might be it. A combination of both, tread and sidewall.

RE: Something new I've learned about tires.

He said they tend to be more unstable. Maybe that's not true for every tire but in his experience that's what he noticed. And I think he has a boat, I'm not sure. I know this is going to be another thread where everybody is just going to agree to disagree but I thought I'd throw that out there. Personally, I'd listen to him. So far he hasn't steered me wrong. And yes the Toyo's cost more than the Firestone's so that's not the motivation. (just wanted to head that one off at the pass);)

Something new I've learned about tires.

This might be old news to some or maybe even most of you but I didn't know this. My wife's minivan had a slow leak so I took it to my local tire guy Dave, he owns TireTech in Williamstown (for you local people). He's a great guy and he knows tires inside and out. Anyway while his guys were patching my wife's tire I commented about a set of tires he had in the show room. I wanted to get them when my Firestone Transforce AT's wear out. They were Toyo Open Country AT's. They were nice looking. Really deep tread, nice pattern. He said they are a nice tire but then he asked me if I tow anything. I told him about my TT and he said that open shoulder tires are more unstable than closed shoulder design tires when it comes to towing heavier loads. He told me he had a guy who had a 5th wheel come in who just bought a set of open shoulder tires off him and said that he almost lost control of his rig. It turned out to be the tires. Dave warned him ahead of time but he didn't listen. He put closed shoulder tires on his truck and no further problems. Like I said some of you guys might already know this but it's news to me. Here are some examples of tires. Toyo Open Country AT's (open shoulder) http://images.superbuytires.com/images/tires/ToyoOpen+Country+AT.JPG Here are my tires... RE: Got my new tires!!! Question about pressures.

First off, nice choice in tires. I run the same tires, size and all. (LT265/75R16). I keep them inflated to 60psi all year round, loaded or unloaded. That seems to work beautifully. Never had any issues at all. My stock size is (P245/75R16). If I kept these Firestone's at the recommended 35psi they would look flat. It's a great tire. I've had it in snow, thick mud, & dirt. They never let me down.

How much caffeine is in your drink?

This site has most of the drinks on the market today. It's pretty interesting. It also has the amount of sugar and caffeine in food. EnergyFiend

Watch your cell phone

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cell phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands free speaker function and begins to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen. MAN: "Hello" WOMAN: "Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?" MAN: "Yes" WOMAN: "I am at the mall now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $1,000. Is it OK if I buy it?" MAN: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much." WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2009 models. I saw one I really liked." MAN: "How much?" WOMAN: "$90,000" MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options." WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing...the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $950,000" MAN: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer of $900,000. They will probably take it. If not, we can go the extra 50 thousand if it's really a pretty good price." WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you so much!" MAN: "Bye! I love you, too." The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths agape. He turns and asks: "Anyone know who this phone belongs to?"

RE: 2009 Toyota

I wonder if it meets the new emission standards? Probably not based on this story... http://articles.latimes.com/2007/oct/15/opinion/ed-methane15 Methane, with 21 times the warming potential of CO2, comes from both ends of a cow, but mostly the front. Frat boys have nothing on bovines, as it’s estimated that a single cow can belch out anywhere from 25 to 130 gallons of methane a day.

RE: Alan Jackson - Good Time

I like Alan Jackson and I like this song but I'm SICK OF IT! Sorry, I had to write that. GAC and CMT and our local radio station have played it to death. I'll give it 6-9 months and then I'll really like it again.:B

RE: New Jersey RV.Net Members - Let's introduce ourselves

Frank and Kathy here, checking in from Sicklerville, Camden County. We're "new" to the whole RV thing, bought the TT ('02 Sunline T2363, 24') a few months back. After some repair work on the unit, we have used it a couple times so far. Really enjoying it, actually more than we thought we would! Welcome to the RV world. This is a great place to learn. And BTW...We're just around the corner in Williamstown, Hi neighbor.:B

0 to 200 in 6 seconds

Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was very upset. She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!" The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale. Bob has been missing since Friday.

RE: Torquing wheel lug nuts

What brand and model number is it? We have a Snap-on at work that is like the one you described. That one clicks when you reach the proper torque. I have a Craftsman at home that DOES NOT click. The handle gives a little when you reach what you set. That one you really got to have a feel for. As for 100 ftlb's, that's really not that hard to reach. Try setting it for a much lower torque and testing it to get a feel for what that one does. And a BIG DITTO on turning it back down when your done. That's a must if you want to keep it accurate.

RE: On license and DOT cert.

IIRC, many NJ cities require a pick-up truck bed be covered with a shell or be considered a commercial vehicle, invoking commercial vehicle parking statutes. Since when? That's a new one on me. Never heard of that one.

RE: Military Veterans who do the RVing thing

Time to "bump" this topic up. It's been nearly 11 months since anyone posted, so ther'es lots of new members who probably haven't seen it. Yep, this is the first time I'm seeing this thread. US Navy '88-'94. Not close to retiring yet. (I'm only 38) Now that I think about it, if I stayed in I would be retiring this year...WOW! I just remembered that's what my Uncle did. Retired at 38 from the Navy and NEVER saw a ship. Then he took a second job. Retired from that at 58. He really did it right.
